WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

PHILOSOPHY

THE NPAA PHILOSOPHY
The creation of spaces for people

Architecture is the creation of spaces for people. It’s about creating built environments that have a positive impact on people’s lives. We approach each project with the expectation of creating a unique solution to the benefit of people who live in it, work with it, and pass by it.

With a practice of our size you can be assured that Nigel is intimately involved in each stage of your project, sharing his enthusiasm and passion to ensure the best outcome.

The best outcomes arise from being prepared to take the hard road, being at the forefront of innovation, delivering excellence in design and following through with high quality, accurate project delivery.

PHILOSOPHY
PHILOSOPHY NPAA Architects
“When you stand at a place and consider the architecture, the materials and the natural environment, you must come to the conclusion that the relationship between the three is such that they belong together, here, and in no other place.”

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“We called on Nigel Parsons and Associates Architects when neighbours objected to our proposed marina extensions. NPAA undertook a detailed heritage assessment and a thorough view analysis. Nigel presented the results himself at the Joint Regional Planning Panel and was, I think, instrumental in securing our approval.”- Jack Felgate, Burraneer Bay Marina

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“When our neighbour proposed extensive renovations we contacted Nigel Parsons for advice, and we’re glad we did. We thought we might lose some of our views, but NPAA undertook a thorough investigation of the proposal and discovered we would lose most of our winter sun as well. Nigel is a very detailed architect. He has an amazing ability to focus on the real issues. Nigel came up with his own solutions and negotiated with our neighbour and Council on our behalf to obtain a successful outcome. Thanks to NPAA our primary views and winter sun are now preserved.”-Mr & Mrs Diamond, Vaucluse

heritage

NPAA has been providing specialist heritage conservation services since 2004. When we take on a project involving heritage we investigate the opportunities and potential for development from every angle. We research the historic, aesthetic and social aspects of the building to determine the significance of the building.

Along with the joy of rediscovering who owned, built and used a historic building comes the excitement of applying our architectural skills to conserve, adapt and resuse the building. Our highly trained staff have the passion and expertise to interpret the history of a heritage item and create architecture that is both respectful to the heritage value of the building whilst having due consideration for the needs of people in the 21st century.

The result is the harmonious blend of old and new such that both can be identified as individual parts which together form a logical marriage of architectural forms.

We have undertaken heritage conservation projects throughout Sydney and NSW. Our services include:

  • Architecture
  • Conservation Management Plans
  • Heritage Advice
  • Maintenance of Heritage Items
  • Researching the history of development and use
  • Restoration of facades, in particular brick and stone
  • Statements of Heritage Signficance
  • Statements of Heritage Impact
PAST INFORMING FUTURE
PAST INFORMING FUTURE
We make those walls talk and rediscover the history of place. Knowing where the building came from, how it evolved, it’s life, it’s history, is the only way we can determine it’s future.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“When we first met Nigel Parsons we were sure he was the right architect for the job. We were taken by his passion for architecture right away. His design was compelling and unique. It more than satisfied the brief. It was a house we had to build! Ten years on we are still proud to live in this house. It’s exactly what we wanted. I think we’ll never leave.”

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“Nearly twelve years ago I engaged Nigel Parsons to undertake the alterations and additions to my home at Harbord. I wanted an extra upper floor and Nigel came up with an excellent solution using a curved roof. Unfortunately some of the neighbours didn’t agree, but Nigel fought the application through the Land and Environment Court, demonstrating how the neighbour’s views would be preserved. The outcome was a very favourable approval. Since then we have remained friends and now I have engaged NPAA on another exciting project.”-Morse Renauf, Harbord

meet the talent about nigel parsons the director

Nigel grew up in the leafy southern suburbs of Sydney where steep terrain and rugged bushland gave rise to an eclectic mix of interesting housing. Nigel’s father was an engineer, and it was not uncommon for building plans to be unrolled on the dining table after dinner. It wasn’t long before Nigel started drawing his own plans and designing his own buildings.

In high school, Nigel had the opportunity to study in Japan as an exchange student where he saw first hand, the work of great architects such as Tadao Ando and Toyo Ito. Nigel developed a passion for Architecture. He continued to draw, design, and explore Architecture, this time in the back of his Japanese Classics book!

“Nigel is good at maths, but he could do better if he didn’t draw houses in the back of his maths book”.

-Wendy Cornish, teacher,

Class 2a, Oatley Public School, 1974

“A passion for excellence in design, heritage conservation, attention to detail, and personal service are the cornerstones of our business.”

Nigel studied Architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney, where he graduated with honours in 1997. Whist an under graduate he was nominated as “Young Designer of the Year” by “The Architecture Show”, a prominent architectural magazine of the day. Strongly committed to excellence in design, he started his own practice 1999. Drawing on his experiences in Japan and interest in sustainable Architecture his first projects were a number of luxury residential houses, centred around Sydney’s lower north shore.

Today the dynamic practice has expanded to take on a variety of residential, heritage, commercial and industrial projects. Nigel maintains direct involvement with each project and every client. His attention to detail is evident on each drawing and every
